Google Buzz – in Gmail

There has been a lot of talk lately about the new feature Google is rolling out with Gmail called Google Buzz. The majority of the articles I have read seem to think Google is trying to tread on Twitter’s space by making a ‘Twitter Killer’, but I dont think this is what Google is doing – if that was their purpose, why would Buzz integrate with Twitter?
Let go back a few months – 28 May 28, 2009 to be exact – when Google launched Google Wave. Initially, everyone was excited, and dying to get a beta invite for this awesome new application that was supposed to bring email to the 21st Century. Fast forward 6 months, and most people dont really get the point of Google Wave, and fail to understand how to effectively use it.
So how does Google overcome this human ignorance? I mean, they created an amazing web app, gave it to the people… and they STILL dont know what to do with it. Obviously Google Wave was more than the general population could handle – so now Google has to teach the laymen how to use it.
In comes Google Buzz. With the introduction of Buzz in Gmail, Google is getting us accustomed to using rich media in email/IM communication. As this phenomenon becomes more mainstream, people will be more willing adopt Wave as the next email/communication platform.
And that – is how you garner support, for an otherwise misunderstood web application.
