Official Launch of Unanchor.com

About a year ago I started working on Unanchor, with my cofounder Jason. Unanchor is a marketplace where we provide self-guided tour itineraries – think of it like an interactive travel guide, but about 100 times better.

After 12 months of blood, sweat and tears – and we have officially launched Unanchor.

From a technical perspective… here is what we did over the last 12 months:

• Rebuilt the entire Unanchor site using the Symfony framework (v1.4)
• Created user profiles for all members
• Added Google Maps integration to allow users to find an itinerary visually on a map
• Built a promotion system that allows us to give discounts to various affiliates
• Created a new system of entering itineraries interactively, which generates a pdf document dynamically
• Improved our search engine to provide more relevant search results (although we still have a lot more left to improve)
• Built a Wordpress Plugin to allow writers to promote their itineraries
• Built a public API to open up our data to third party clients such as the wordpress plugin, and mobile apps.
